Duterte, Sasa, Talomo, Bucana enter semis

DAVAO CITY – Barangays Duterte, Sasa, Talomo and Bucana all managed to advance into the cross-over semifinal round of the 5^th Conference of the Trip ko Phoenix Fuels Basketball Cup in Davao City.

Duterte powered by Accelerate Supreme topped the elimination round with a record of six wins against only one loss to take the no. 1 spot followed by Sasa (Cyclomax 4T Force), Talomo (Cyclomax Titan) and Bucana (2T Max) in that order with identical 5-2 win-loss slates.

Already eliminated in the 16-under basketball tournament of the Liga ng mga Barangay are the four teams from Catalunan Grande (3-4), Buhangin (2-5), Bankerohan (1-6) and R. Castillo (1-6).

“The semifinals will be played on December 15 as the four teams are now all still practicing,”said Harry Dubouzet, Brand Associate of the Phoenix Petroleum Phils. at the SCOOP of the Royal Mandaya Hotel last Tuesday.

Duterte will face no. 4 Bucana while no. 2 Sasa takes on no. 3 Talomo in the cross-over semifinal round of the league held in cooperation with ABC President Paolo “Pulong” Duterte and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) under Regional Director Regino Cua.

Bucana beat Catalunan, 68-64 last Sunday to grab the fourth and final semi-final seat.  Bucana made a hot start with a 22-15 run for a 42-36 halftime lead. Catalunan, however, rallied to tie the score at 52-all at the end of the third quarter. 

Cainan Amoguis and Lez Anthony Gabila scored 11 and 10 points, respectively for Bucana while Harry Dumagan topscored for Catalunan with 14 markers.

Talomo took the third seat by demolishing Buhangin, 82-62 while Duterte and Sasa posted similar wins after the no shows of R. Castillo and Bankerohan, respectively.

Ronald Jabican exploded with 25 points for Talomo while Jayzon Espinosa had 12 for Buhangin. LITO DELOS REYES
