Davao wushu player in SEAG ‘13
DAVAO CITY -- A wushu player from Davao City will don the country’s colors in the 27th Southeast Asian Games set on December 11 to 22, 2013 in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay regions and Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanmar.“I hope to win a medal,” said 22-year old Evita Zamora, who will see action in the women’s 56 kg. wushu sanda (combat) event.The Wushu Federation Philippines has won 11 gold medals in the previous SEA Games.The 5-foot-6 Zamora, a former second year BSBA student of the University of Mindanao, made it to the Philippine team after bagging a gold medal in the Visayas Mindanao Wushu Champioships held last April at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.Zamora then won a silver medal in the Philippine National Games held in Dumaguete City last June. She is also preparing for the World Wushu Championships slated in August 2013 in China.Zamora was formerly trained by the King’s Sword Martial Arts in Davao City under Master Neil Jone Astudillo.Both Zamora and Astudillo graced the weekly edition of the SCOOP at the Royal Mandaya Hotel last Tuesday. “I’m very proud of Evita, who is now a member of PH wushu team,” Astudillo, who is also an instructor of the fitness and aerobics.Astudillo said that he will continue to discover and train more young athletes to become future national and international players.
