DAVAO CITY -- The Philippine Women's College defeated D' Davao Survivors, 3-2 to bag the 9th Acosta Cup Ladies Open football tournament last Sunday at the Tionko grounds.
PWC got a 1-0 lead from Sanaa Jikiri in the 31st minute before Esther Boado tied it, 1-all in the 44th. But Kimberly Cupal (48') and June Mae Bunac (55') scored back-to-back markers to give PWC a 3-1 advantage.
Former national player and coach Rachelle "Ching" delos Reyes managed to cut DDS' deficit with her own goal in the 75th. But time was not on the side of DDS already.
The PWC squad mentored by Alvic Troyo was also played by Kimberly Joyce Adolfo, Almarie Buluran, June Mae Bunac, July Anne Bunac, Rhea Carajay, Sheena Casimiro, Lederine Dono, Lovely Rose Fajardo, Joy Galvez, Arianne Javier, Grace Morales, Alvin Rose Pardillo, Ara Sabijon, Genevieve Suyco, Raylynne Tale, Jenny Tevar, Cherry Mae Vilchez and Krista Villa Abrille.
DDS was also composed of playing coach Analou Ingles, Michelle Alfeche, Gianelli Amigleo, Jingle Cabisong, Janice Celestial, Ma. Theresa Concordo, Kristel Dureza, Lomalyn Fama, Simonette Gaspay, Chella Gatapia, Jerlyn Leah Ibabao, Vanessa Leonar, Joan Mortillero, Karen Paulino, Allyn Ravanes, Reynalyn Ravanes, Leonor Satorre, Kharilla Sol Cruz, Marlon Suzara and Bethsonia Villa Abrille.
Bee Happy settled for third place.
Lawyer Janice Celestial, a board member of the Davao Football Association awarded the trophies and medals. The annual event is organized by DFA in coordination with former city councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta and was sponsored by Dr. Rey Ferrer, KTM, Mer Allure, RDL Pharmacueticals, Philsaga, Ulticon, Jollibee Bolton and NCCC.
